Some people believe that the messages from fortune cookies are real and they take them seriously. They think that if the use the lucky numbers given they will win. In my opinion this is not true. Why would I bet everything that i have just because some cookie tells me that I will win. How can people believe in what randomly people write just to sell cookies and be serious about it.
In The New York Times newspaper, Maria Aspan wrote an article about negative messages in Fortune cookies. For example, “Today is a disastrous day” and “It’s over your head now. Time to get some professional help.” When people read this messages, they got mad and complained to the marketing coordinator Bernard Chow. He responded that hi purpose was not to insult anyone, but for the cookies to be more value-added.
First of all, I think that fortune cookies are just for people to have fun. I mean, if I discovered that one fortune cookie says that in order for me to find true love, I should jump from a bridge, of course I wouldn’t do it. I would probably just think its funny and laugh. I don’t understand why people get offended by them. What drives people to believe that messages hidden inside a fortune cookie is true? Why would they complain to the makers of the cookies? It would be interesting to know about it.
